BLOODNUT – Blues From The Red Sons

BLOODNUT perform stoner sludge fuelled by staunch ginger-pride poised for world domination. Yep.

They released their debut album Blues from the Red Sons in September of 2016.

nuWhile BLOODNUT are not a parody band they are a band with a clear theme. They pride themselves on not taking themselves too seriously in much the same way as bands like The Melvins, Big Business, Red Fang & Kyuss.

Combining big riffs, catchy hooks and more soul than you would expect from a band of gingers, New Zealand based stoner sludge band BLOODNUT have been infecting people with groove since their formation in 2012. They fought like warrior poets through a steady flow of gigs and their fare share of lineup changes as the band began to build a decent following while playing alongside Corrosion of Conformity, Torche, Red Fang, Black Tusk, The Sword and Beastwars.

In mid 2015 the band entered the studio to record their debut album aptly named Blues From the Red Sons. The album represents the last four years of the bands existence and features some of the staples from their live set such as ‘Fire Giant’, ‘The Red Face Blues’ and ‘Drop Dead Redhead’. The band also asked for a different artist to draw or photograph something for each song to go along side the lyrics in the liner notes to further illustrate the eclectic nature of the band and their songs.

“Huge is the word. BLOODNUT sound immensely huge.” – Daniel Fox- metaltemple.com

“Fire (fucking) giants on the horizon! Bloodnut play punked-up, raging doom that’s lit by smokin’ stoner riffs. It’s all red-hot, red-headed, and all-amps-ablazing Viking rock ’n’ roll. Prepare thyself. The Ginger berserkers are here.” – Craig Hayes – sixnoises.com

“…Oranzig” – Nato Hickey – Beastwars

“Swampy rhythms, bluesy leads, stomping beats, lumbering chords, gloriously downtuned fuzzorama, those gravely lumberjack vocals (a few insane laughs), and a big ol’ truckload of attitude.” – doomedandstoned.com

This is really rad, ripping riffs & funny as fuck! – Jason Lei Howden – Writer/ Director of Deathgasm

One more little wrinkle to the story is that we will be sending 10% of all album sales be they digital or physical to The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme because we happen to be a band of gingers. This gave us a chance to be interviewed on national television down here and actually go in to the orangutan enclosure – http://www.newshub.co.nz/entertainment/bloodnut-saving-the-orangutan-one-riff-at-a-time-2016090813
